GERMANY AWARDED ISTRIAN PROSCIUTTO- JELENIĆ

Published: 17.01.2022.

With the gold medal that Jelenić prosciutto won these days for her certified Istrian prosciutto, the doors of the German market would be wide open to them, if they were interested. However, brothers Luka and Paolo Jelenić are not interested in exporting to Germany, at least for now.

Istrian prosciutto Jelenić from Sveti Petar u Šumi was awarded a gold medal for quality at the international evaluation of prosciutto and sausages conducted in Frankfurt by the leading German food evaluation company DLG. This company does not conduct evaluations as part of a fair or event (although it organizes several food fairs and festivals in Germany and other countries), but the results of its evaluations serve as service information to importers and traders of food products. In other words, a good score on DLG testing guarantees market success for the award-winning product.

Quality certification

With the gold medal that Jelenić prosciutto won these days for her certified Istrian prosciutto, the doors of the German market would be wide open to them, if they were interested. However, brothers Luka and Paolo Jelenić are not interested in exporting to Germany, at least for now. They are interested in having a certificate of the quality of their product that will motivate German customers when they come to Istria as tourists and intend to use Jelenić prosciutto products there.

Three years ago, Istrian prosciutto jelenić with a protected designation of origin received a great German award for the first time: at the International Fair of Meat, Meat Products and Meat Processing Equipment Suffa in Stuttgart, Germany, he was awarded a gold medal, winning a maximum of 50 points. "We put a diploma from the Suffa fair in our sales area just to brag to our friends, but we were surprised when German customers, who are obviously very familiar with the Suffa fair, reacted extremely positively and saw the diploma and wanted to try and buy a product that is he deserved the recognition ", say Luka and Paolo Jelenić. After three years, they sent their prosciutto for another German evaluation, but this time of a completely different type, to get some kind of external, independent confirmation that they still have a good product and are on the right track in terms of German consumer tastes.
