Frantoio olive is a variety that is widespread in the Italian region of Tuscany and the central part of Italy. this variety has been cultivated in Istria since 1940.
It is resistant to low temperatures. In this regard, the Frantoio olive shows excellent adaptability to different growing zones. It is of medium luxuriance, but it has a wide growth. Its wooden branches grow upright and are rich in dark-colored leaves. Although it is a highly self-pollinating variety, pollinators are recommended: Leccino, Pendolino.
As we said earlier, it is a very adaptive plant to different conditions and resistant to many pests. However, it is sensitive to olive fly and peacock eye, and especially to olive cancer.
Her fertility is good and constant. Its fruits come to fruition already after planting and weigh approximately 2 grams. Its fruits ripen from October to December and are harvested in that part of the year.
It is a highly valued variety because of the exceptional and high-quality oil it produces. If the harvest is carried out when the fruits are wine-reddish in color - it gives an oil with a pronounced fruity smell of the olive fruit, pleasant bitterness and spiciness. The fruits of this variety can also be used for canning. It is a very powerful oil and, accordingly, it is an excellent addition to foods that also have an intense taste, such as steak, truffles, game, etc.
